8-Acetonyldihydrosanguinarine is a benzophenanthridine alkaloid found in the plant Celandine. It is used as a health functional food to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain. 8-Acetonyldihydrosanguinarine has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), in human cancer cells. This compound also has anti-tumor properties by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis. 8-Acetonyldihydrosanguinarine binds to protopine, a protein found in cancer cells, which inhibits the production of TNF-α, IL-6, and other inflammatory cytokines.
