2-Phenylethylbenzodithiolate (2PEBD) is a compound that can specifically interact with the model protein, bovine serum albumin. 2PEBD has been shown to form micelles in water and copolymerize with styrene to form polymer particles. The kinetic of the reaction between 2PEBD and the model protein was determined by monitoring the reaction time. The immobilization of 2PEBD onto silica gel was mediated by glutaraldehyde, which allowed for its separation from the protein in a macroinitiator system. Gel permeation chromatography has also been used to show that 2PEBD can be used as an effective supercritical fluid extraction agent.
