It can reversibly bind to drug targets such as the active site of enzymes and the cell membrane. 4,4'-Dipyridyl sulphide is a proton-selective ligand that binds to metal ions in a helical structure with a supramolecular arrangement. The uptake of this molecule by cells has been shown through crystal x-ray diffraction studies and it has also been found to be an electrophile that can be modified by other molecules such as modifiers.
