2-(Pyridin-2-yl)propan-2-ol is a bidentate ligand that contains an amido and ether substituents. This ligand can be used in the dehydroxylation of ethylene to produce propene, which is a building block for polymers such as polypropylene. The crystallography of 2-(pyridin-2-yl)propan-2-ol has been studied at frequencies up to 400 MHz and has shown selectivities for the various related ligands. It has also been shown to be scalable, with no observable diffraction limit, and also exhibits good selectivity for catalyzing the formation of polydentate ligands. 2-(Pyridin-2-yl)propan-2-ol shows high activity in cocatalyzed reactions with sodium salts.
