Description:

1-Chloro-1-deoxy-D-fructose is a chemical compound that is used in the production of sucrose. It is hydrolyzed by the enzyme invertase to produce glucose and fructose. In addition, 1-chloro-1-deoxy-D-fructose can be synthesized from D-arabinose and chloral hydrate or from D-xylose and sodium hypochlorite. The use of this chemical has been reported in Australia, where it was found in sugar cane processing waste water.
