Product Information
Mirandin B is a natural product that is found in the extract of the leaves of Lauraceae plants. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on tumor cells and has been used as a cancer treatment. Mirandin B has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. The structure of mirandin B was determined through spectroscopic analysis, which revealed that it is a dimer with two pyrogallol moieties linked together by an ether bond.
Mirandin B inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase, which prevents the production of RNA from DNA. This inhibition leads to cell death by preventing the production of proteins vital for cell division. Analysis of this compound showed that it had a molecular weight of 314 Da and an empirical formula C19H14O4.
