2-(2,5-Dioxo-2,5-dihydro-pyrrol-1-yl)-propionic acid is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the tumor necrosis factor alpha receptor and blocks its activity. This prevents the release of proinflammatory cytokines and other inflammatory mediators from the tumor cells. 2-(2,5-Dioxo-2,5-dihydro-pyrrol-1-yl)-propionic acid also has anti cancer effects in prostate cancer cells by blocking growth factors that promote cell proliferation. It is an FDA approved drug for the treatment of certain types of cancer. The molecule is reactive with hydroxyl groups and can be used as diagnostic agents for human serum proteins.
