Description

Viniferin is a reaction product of the following compounds: resveratrol, piceatannol and vincristine. Viniferin has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in human studies. Viniferin inhibits inflammatory genes such as IL-6, COX-2, and NF-κB by inhibiting the activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) proteins. Viniferin also inhibits the transport of glucose and regulates energy metabolism in caco-2 cells. Viniferin also has an inhibitory effect on signal transduction proteins that lead to cell death in staphylococcus bacteria. A soluble extract from viniferin has been shown to be effective at doses of 10mg/kg when administered orally to rats with tuberculosis. This extract contains bioactive phytochemicals such as resveratrol, piceatannol, and vincristine.
