It has been shown to have optical properties, as well as diffraction and strengthening effects on the temperature dependence of the rate of organic reactions. 2,7-Dibromophenanthrene also has an ability to bind to two bidentate ligands. 2,7-Dibromophenanthrene is used in analytical methods for determining polymer concentrations and in analytical methods for determining chloride concentration. The biphenyl molecule contains a chloride group.
