Oxyntomodulin is a peptide hormone that is used as a pharmacological treatment for diabetes. Oxyntomodulin is an analogue of glucagon, which belongs to the family of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists. Oxyntomodulin has been shown to improve glucose tolerance and increase insulin secretion in humans and animals. This drug has also been shown to decrease appetite and improve weight loss in overweight patients with type 2 diabetes.
