The metabolite has been found to have acidic properties, which can be determined by gas-liquid chromatography. 6-Amino-5-oxohexanoic acid hydrochloride can be used as a biomarker for cerebrospinal fluid and has also been used in biochemical studies to explore the equilibrium between ionized and nonionized forms of acids.
