Product Information
1,2-Bis(bromomethyl)-3-fluorobenzene is an organic compound that can be synthesized by the reaction of bromine with 1,2-difluoroethane in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper. This synthesis can be carried out using the following equation:
The yield of this reaction is dependent on the type of solvent used. The use of dichloromethane or dichloroethane produces higher yields than those obtained with ether or toluene. The conversion from difluoroethane to 1,2-bis(bromomethyl)-3-fluorobenzene is irreversible. When diels-alder cycloadditions are carried out with 1,2-bis(bromomethyl)-3-fluorobenzene and an alkynyl dienophile, only one product is formed and it does not undergo reductive elimination.
