Oxiracetam is a type of organic base that has the chemical formula CHNO. It is an acetamide derivative and a member of the group of nootropic drugs called racetams. Oxiracetam is a high-yield, non-toxic, and water soluble compound with a melting point of 178°C. The use of oxiracetam as an organic base provides excellent yields in many reactions including Friedel-Crafts alkylation or acylation reactions. This compound can also act as a catalyst for certain reactions such as the synthesis of 4-hydroxy-2-oxo-1-pyrrolidineacetic acid ethyl ester.
