Name:
Di-1-naphthylmethanol
Synonyms:
  • 1-Naphthalenemethanol, Alpha-1-Naphthalenyl-
  • Di(1-naphthyl)methanol
Description:

Di-1-naphthylmethanol is a di-1-naphthyl compound that is used as a precursor in the synthesis of bifluorenylidene, which is a useful intermediate for organic synthesis. Di-1-naphthylmethanol can be prepared by reacting 2-naphthoyl chloride with dichroic and yields two isomers. It can also be prepared by the organocatalytic reaction of naphthalene and chloroformate. The conformational stability of Di-1-naphthylmethanol is increased by stabilization with carboxylic acids. Di-1-naphthylmethanol has been shown to react with carbonyls, such as ketones, esters, and amides, in an organocatalytic manner. This reaction occurs via an enamine intermediate and proceeds via a sequential 1,4 addition of the carbonyl group to
