(S)-(-)-4-tert-Butyloxazolidine-2,5-dione is an organic compound that is used as a polymerization initiator. It can be used to prepare polymers of l-tert-leucine and other monomers. The compound undergoes oxidative homopolymerization and copolymerization reactions with various monomers such as styrene, vinyl chloride, divinylbenzene, butadiene, acrylonitrile, etc. (S)-(-)-4-tert-Butyloxazolidine-2,5-dione has been shown to act as a ligand in organometallic reactions. It is also used in the synthesis of polypeptides by activating the lysine side chain hydroxyl group.
