This compound can be used as a substrate for the cytochrome P450 system and soluble guanylate cyclase. 1,4:3,6-Dianhydro-D-iditol has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on both tissues and guanylate cyclase in vitro. This compound also inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species by oxidases.
