2-Amino-1-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone (AMIE) is a chemical that is used to study the interaction of lipopolysaccharide and macrophages. It is also used in the chemical derivatization of marine substances, such as oxides. AMIE inhibits the production of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 by mouse macrophages. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, including gram positive and gram negative strains.
