Product Information
2-(Benzyloxy)-2-methylpropanoic acid is an alkoxyalkyl compound that contains a benzyl group and a methyl substituent. It is homolytic and electron donating. The reactivity of 2-(Benzyloxy)-2-methylpropanoic acid is rationalized by the electron donating properties of the benzylic hydroxyl group and the electron withdrawing properties of the methyl substituent. This reaction pathway can be accelerated by photolysis or oxidation and it can react with oxygen to form peroxide, which then reacts with other organic compounds to give epoxides, oxetanes, or dioxiranes. 2-(Benzyloxy)-2-methylpropanoic acid can also decarboxylate, producing carbon dioxide and hydrogen chloride in its intermediate stages.
2-(Benzyloxy)-2-methylpropanoic acid can also be converted into trichloromethyl radicals through a homolytic cleavage reaction
