Eprobemide is a drug that belongs to the class of benzothiazepine derivatives. It acts as an inhibitor of voltage-gated potassium channels, which are involved in the generation and conduction of electrical impulses in nerve and muscle cells. Eprobemide has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and inhibitory effects on bowel inflammation. This drug has also been shown to have cardiotoxic effects, which may be due to its ability to cross-link cardiac proteins and induce cancer.
Eprobemide can also be used for experimental models of inflammatory bowel disease in rats, where it inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines by macrophages and T cells.
