Description:
1-Butyl-3-methylpyridin-1-ium is a colorless liquid. It has a viscosity of 0.25 Pa·s at 20°C, and a boiling point of −10°C. The solubility of 1-butyl-3-methylpyridin-1-ium in water is 4.5 g/L at 20°C, and it is soluble in organic solvents such as acetone, ethanol, ether and benzene. 1-Butyl-3-methylpyridinium can be used to make dicyanoazanide by reacting with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of diacid or anionic compounds. Dicyanoazanide can be used for analytical purposes because it reacts with anions to form colored complexes that are detectable by spectrometers or gas chromatographs.
