Ethyl 3-O-benzyl-b-D-thioglucopyranoside is a modification of the sugar D-thioglucose. It is synthesized by the methylation of D-thioglucose with ethyl iodide in aqueous sulfuric acid, followed by glycosylation with benzaldehyde and sodium hydroxide. This product has been used for polymerization reactions, as well as for synthesis of oligosaccharides and polysaccharides. The molecular weight of this product is 434.2 g/mol.
