Product Information
(2R,2'R)-(-)-2,2'-Bipyrrolidine is a synthetic compound that is used in the Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation reaction. This reaction converts aldehydes and terminal alkynes to their corresponding chiral alcohols in high enantiopurity. The synthesis of phosphonates and zirconium-based catalysts have been shown to be effective for this reaction. In order to synthesize (2R,2'R)-(-)-2,2'-bipyrrolidine, an acetonitrile solution of 2-bromo-1-propanol was treated with trimethylphosphite which produced the desired product in high yield. It is also a tetradentate ligand that binds metal ions through four phosphorus atoms. The stereoisomers of bipyrrolidines can be differentiated based on the relative configuration of the two groups at the 2 position on the pyrrole ring
