Cis-atovaquone is an effective drug that inhibits the growth of Plasmodium falciparum, a parasite responsible for malaria. It works by binding to the cytochrome bc1 complex in the mitochondrial electron transport chain and disrupting the production of ATP, which is essential for DNA synthesis and protein production.
