a-D-Galactose-1-phosphate dipotassium salt hydrate is a kinetic, biochemical, and enzyme inhibitor. It is used in the study of biochemical reactions, genetic analyses, and enzyme activities. The compound inhibits the formation of galactose-1-phosphate from D-galactose in red blood cells. This inhibition prevents the formation of red blood cells and thus causes anemia. When administered to rats, this compound also inhibits body formation by preventing the biosynthesis of red blood cells.
