It has been shown to improve carnitine deficiency and aciduria, which may be due to environmental pollution. Valeryl-L-carnitine hydrochloride has also been shown to have synergistic effects with other drugs such as L-dopa, amantadine, and levodopa in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Valeryl-L-carnitine hydrochloride has been shown to increase serum levels of carnitine, thereby increasing its availability for transportation into the brain. It may also be effective for improving cognition in people with Alzheimer's disease or other types of dementia.
