IEM 1754 2HBr is a glutamate antagonist that blocks the activity of glutamate receptors in the central nervous system. It has been shown to have a low potency and to be rapidly metabolized with an elimination half-life of about 10 minutes. IEM 1754 2HBr has pharmacokinetic properties that make it suitable for oral administration, which can be taken as a tablet or capsule. The drug is used in experimental models to study glutamate receptor activity and locomotor activity. IEM 1754 2HBr has been shown to have no effects on animals when administered at doses up to three times the maximum therapeutic dose. Side effects are limited to mild drug reactions, such as constipation, nausea, vomiting, and headache. IEM 1754 2HBr also may reduce autoimmune diseases by blocking the release of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines from activated T cells.
