4,6-Dibromo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole-2,3-dione is a crystalline compound that is a useful intermediate in organic synthesis. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of the formation of 4,6-dibromoindole from 1,2,4-trihydroxybenzene and 2,4-dimethylaniline. This reaction is catalyzed by organocatalysts such as palladium acetate and triethylphosphite in the presence of boron trifluoride etherate. The crystal structure of 4,6-dibromoindole was also determined by X-ray diffraction.
