Hexyldimethyloctylammonium Bromide is a non-polymeric, viscosity-increasing polycarboxylic acid. It has been used as an antibacterial and antimicrobial agent in liquid crystal composition. It binds to protein by forming ionic bonds with the amino acids in the protein, thereby disrupting the function of the protein. Hexyldimethyloctylammonium Bromide has a reactive functional group that can form covalent bonds with other molecules, such as pyridinium and chloride ions. This makes it useful for removing chlorine from water.
