It binds to protein by forming ionic bonds with the amino acids in the protein, thereby disrupting the function of the protein. Hexyldimethyloctylammonium Bromide has a reactive functional group that can form covalent bonds with other molecules, such as pyridinium and chloride ions. This makes it useful for removing chlorine from water.
