Description:

5-Pentanoic acid is a metabolite of the synthetic cannabinoid compound MAM2201. It is an analog of 5-hydroxy-pentanoic acid (5-HPA), which is a naturally occurring metabolite of the endogenous lipoic acid. 5-Pentanoic acid may be formed from the carboxylation of leucine and other amino acids, including methionine, by cytochrome P450 enzymes in human liver cells. This compound has been detected in urine samples from humans who have consumed MAM2201, as well as in vivo studies with rats and mice. The metabolism of MAM2201 to 5-pentanoic acid has been shown to be dependent on urinary pH levels. The analytical methods for detecting 5-pentanoic acid in human urine or blood samples are not currently available.
MAM2201 is a synthetic cannabinoid that activates cannabinoid receptors and produces psychoactive effects when administered to animals.
