Product Information
Methyl 4-C-Hydroxymethyl-2,3-O-isopropylidene-b-D-ribofuranoside is a modification of the monosaccharide, D-ribose. It is synthesized by the selective methylation of the hydroxymethyl group at position C4. The synthesis of this compound starts with the oxidation of D-ribose to form 2,3'-diisopropylidene boronate ester (1). This compound is then reacted with methyl iodide in the presence of an acid to form 4-(methyloxy)benzaldehyde (2). The final step involves conversion of 2 to 4-(methyloxy)benzylidene boronate ester (3), which is then hydrolyzed to yield methyl 4-C-hydroxymethyl-2,3-O-isopropylidene ribofuranoside.
