Product Information
Methyl 2,3,5-tri-O-benzyl-D-ribofuranoside is a potential drug that can be used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is an analog of curcumin that has a nucleophilic group on its benzyl ring. This group reacts with the carbonyl carbon atom in maltase glucoamylase and triggers a Friedel-Crafts reaction that generates an isomeric product. The methyl 2,3,5-tri-O-benzyl-D-ribofuranoside molecule inhibits glycosidases by binding to the active site of these enzymes and preventing access to substrate. Methyl 2,3,5-tri-O-benzyl-D ribofuranoside has also been shown to have antifungal activity against Candida albicans.
