4-Methoxyphenyl 4,6-O-Benzylidene-b-D-galactopyranoside is a diagnostic agent that reacts with the magnesium salt of 4,6-O-benzylidene b-D-galactopyranoside to form a bright red complex. The reaction of the complex with the magnesium oxide is rapid and highly specific for this substrate. The intensity of color can be measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 420 nm. This product may be used in medical research to diagnose Alzheimer's Disease or other neurological disorders that are characterized by impaired cognition and memory.
