4-Methoxyphenyl 3,6-Di-O-benzyl-2-deoxy-2-phthalimido-b-D-glucopyranoside is a glycopeptide with sucrase activity. It has been shown to prevent the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo by inhibiting the production of insulin and other hormones. The anti-tumor effect was also observed in virus infected cells, where it inhibited the replication of papilloma virus. 4MPBG was found to inhibit the multiplication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in vitro by binding to HIV RNA and blocking its synthesis.
