Product Information
- 1-[2-(1H-Indol-3-yl)ethyl]thiourea
- Thiourea, N-[2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]-
[2-(1H-Indol-3-yl)-ethyl]-thiourea (1) is a gyrase inhibitor that binds to serotonergic receptors in the brain. The binding of 1 to these receptors results in an inhibitory effect on the serotonergic system. It has been shown to have antiviral and antibacterial properties, as well as antinociceptive effects. Structural analysis using crystallography revealed that 1 has significant structural similarity to the antibiotic fluoroquinolone. This similarity suggests that 1 may also be active against bacterial pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Staphylococcus aureus, which are resistant to fluoroquinolones due to their ability to bind DNA gyrase and topoisomerases I and II.
