L-a-Phosphatidyl-(1,2-dipalmitoyl)-D-myo-inositol is a phospholipid that is a major component of the cell membrane. It is derived from myo-inositol and palmitic acid. L-a-Phosphatidyl-(1,2-dipalmitoyl)-D-myo-inositol has been shown to have anticoagulant properties. It binds to the thrombin receptor and inhibits the binding of thrombin to this receptor. This inhibitor does not affect the activity of other proteases such as trypsin or chymotrypsin. L-a-Phosphatidyl-(1,2-dipalmitoyl)-D-myo-inositol can also be used for industrial purposes as an emulsifier or polymer conjugate.
