Product Information
2-(Trifluoromethyl)quinolin-4-yl)methanol is a crystalline solid that belongs to the class of piperidines. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth, with an MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) of 0.02 μg/mL for Escherichia coli and 0.06 μg/mL for Staphylococcus aureus. 2-(Trifluoromethyl)quinolin-4-yl)methanol inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the chloride ion in the active site of DNA gyrase, inhibiting its ability to break down supercoiled DNA. 2-(Trifluoromethyl)quinolin-4-yl)methanol also binds to the hydroxyl group on the enzyme's surface, preventing it from interacting with DNA during replication. This inhibition results in death by lack of protein synthesis and cell division.
