Product Information
- Resveratroloside4-[(1E)-2-(3,5-Dihydroxyphenyl)ethenyl]phenyl b-D-glucopyranoside
Trans-resveratrol is a natural compound that is found in the roots of white and purple grapevines. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxic effects on cells grown in culture, but only at concentrations that are significantly higher than those found in wine. Trans-resveratrol also has biological properties that may be related to its ability to inhibit the growth of certain types of cancer cells. The mechanism by which trans-resveratrol exerts its anticancer effects is not yet known. However, it has been shown to bind with high affinity to nuclear DNA, suggesting that it may inhibit transcription or replication. Trans-resveratrol also inhibits the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) activity of reverse transcriptase, an enzyme used by retroviruses such as HIV and HTLV-1. This inhibition may be due to its ability to bind with high affinity to the enzyme's active site and prevent access of the nucleic acid primer and template strand.
