Description:

1,2,3,4-Tetra-O-benzyl-β-D-glucopyranoside is a prodrug that becomes active after acetylation. It is an endogenous compound that has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of myelin and lipid peroxidation in rat brains. This drug has also been found to be effective in the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). 1,2,3,4-Tetra-O-benzyl-β-D-glucopyranoside is unmodified and does not have any side effects on the nervous system. It can be used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease when combined with levodopa.
