This compound is synthesized from 1,2,3,4-tetraacetyl bromoacetone and 2,3,4,6-tetraacetyl bromoethanol by an acetalization reaction followed by a silylation reaction. Tetra-O-benzoyl-6-O-tert butyldimethylsilyl b D galactopyranose may be used in glycosylation reactions. The product is soluble in water or ethanol and can be stored for up to 2 weeks at 4°C.
