Product Information

Name:
6-Cyclopropyl-10-fluoro-7,8-dihydrobenzo[K]phenanthridine
Description:

Propidium is a red fluorescent dye that has been used in cytometric analysis to measure the degree of cell death. Propidium binds to DNA and RNA, resulting in an increase of fluorescence intensity. Propidium has been shown to induce apoptosis in human keratinocytes through a dose-dependent mechanism. The binding of propidium to nucleic acids results in disruption of the cellular membrane, causing leakage of intracellular contents and loss of membrane potential. The release of cytoplasmic contents leads to increased levels of ATP and cell death.
