Name:
6-Nitro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside
Description:

6-Nitro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside is a chromogenic substrate used in the detection of β-galactosidase activity. It can be used to determine if a food product contains lactose. The staining reaction with this substrate is dependent on pH and temperature, as well as the concentration of enzyme. 6NIGP is also used as a ligand in many immunoassays and can be conjugated to antibodies for use in immunohistochemistry or flow cytometry. This compound is also used in diagnostic tests for environmental toxins or carcinogens, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). 6NIGP has been shown to be stable for up to three months when stored at room temperature when dry. This compound has a CAS number of 7881-09-2 and is made by Sigma Aldrich. 6NIGP fluoresces green when excited by light
