Product Information

Name:
4-Nitrophenyl-β-D-fucopyranoside
Synonyms:
  • p-Nitrophenyl-beta-D-fucoside
Description:

4-Nitrophenyl-beta-D-fucopyranoside is a synthetic compound that has been used as a model for the study of the binding of drugs to DNA. It has been shown to inhibit DNA synthesis and protein synthesis in E. coli cells, but does not have any effect on the growth of other bacterial strains. 4-Nitrophenyl-beta-D-fucopyranoside binds to both DNA and RNA by forming hydrogen bonds with their phosphate groups. This molecule is synthesized enzymatically by reacting 4-nitrophenol with D-fucose. The product can be purified using affinity chromatography with an agarose matrix or by filtration through a 0.2 micron filter.
