3'-Amino-2',3'-dideoxyinosine (3'-ddI) is a synthetic nucleoside with antiviral properties. It has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of viral DNA and RNA, which prevents the production of new viruses. 3'-Amino-2',3'-dideoxyinosine is active against both herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2, as well as cytomegalovirus and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
