2,2'-Anhydro-L-uridine is a nucleoside that is synthesized from L-thymidine by alkaline hydrolysis followed by hydrogenolysis. It is chemotactic for neutrophils and reactive with l-adenosine. 2,2'-Anhydro-L-uridine has antiviral activity against herpes simplex viruses and may have potential use as a synthetic nucleoside in the treatment of viral infections. 2,2'-Anhydro-L-uridine inhibits the growth of bacteria by blocking the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and protein.
