Description:
2'-Azido-2'-deoxyuridine is a nucleoside analog that inhibits the herpes simplex virus by preventing the conversion of viral ribonucleic acid (RNA) into messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and protein. Inactivated 2'-azido-2'-deoxyuridine prevents replication of viral DNA, which leads to cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis. This drug also inhibits mammalian cells and has been shown to inhibit the growth of cells in culture.
