N-{4-[4-amino-2-(ethyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]quinolin-1-yl]butyl}methylesulfonamide (AEMI) is a novel immunomodulator that has been shown to have anticarcinogenic effects in preclinical studies. It induces an immune response in patients with cancer by stimulating the production of interleukin 1 receptor antagonist and other cytokines. AEMI also activates toll-like receptor 2, which is involved in the innate immunity pathway and triggers an orchestrated immune response to destroy tumour cells. The clinical response to AEMI is dose proportional and shows no adverse effects on healthy cells or tissues.
