4-Amino-2-methoxypyrimidine is a fluorescent compound that is used for the detection of hydrogen bonds, and as a precursor in the synthesis of other compounds. 4-Amino-2-methoxypyrimidine has been shown to be able to absorb ultraviolet radiation, which leads to its fluorescence. The compound can also form hydrogen bonds with other molecules and it has been shown to react with n-hexane. 4-Amino-2-methoxypyrimidine reacts with orthophosphate, producing singlet oxygen and transferring a proton. It also reacts with solvents such as water or ethanol, giving off light.
