Propyl glycinate hydrochloride is an ester of pyrazinoic acid and propanol. It is a triazole antifungal that inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, which is essential for fungal cell membranes. Propyl glycinate hydrochloride has antibacterial activity against bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Enterococcus faecalis. This drug also exhibits antifungal activity against Aspergillus fumigatus and Cryptococcus neoformans. This active form binds to amino acids, especially those with unsaturated alkyl chains, in animal cells and selectively inhibits protein synthesis in these cells. The biological properties of this drug are based on its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in animals without affecting bacterial or fungal cells.
