2,4,5-Trichloroacetophenone is a chlorinated hydrocarbon. It is an atypical congener of the chlorinated aromatic compound trimethyl-2,4,5-trichlorophenol. 2,4,5-Trichloroacetophenone has been detected in the environment from the degradation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). It has been shown to be metabolized by corynebacterium and other bacteria to produce fatty acids such as octanoic acid and decanoic acid. 2,4,5-Trichloroacetophenone also acts as a chlorinating agent and has been used in the production of phosphites.
