Description:
1,2,2,3-Tetrachloropropane is an isomerizing chlorinating agent that is used in the production of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and other chemicals. It has been shown to be toxic in animal studies and can cause reproductive effects. 1,2,2,3-Tetrachloropropane reacts with chlorine to produce a variety of byproducts. These byproducts are chlorinated hydrocarbons which have been found to be carcinogenic in animals. The toxicity of these byproducts has not yet been determined.
